How much CO₂ does a solar panel save?

Each kWh of solar-generated electricity replaces grid electricity that would otherwise emit 0.82 kg of CO₂ (India's current grid average, mostly coal-based). A 5 kW system in UP generates ~7,300 kWh/year, saving ~6,000 kg (6 tonnes) of CO₂ annually.

How many trees does solar equal?

One mature tree absorbs ~22 kg of CO₂ per year. A 5 kW solar system saves ~6,000 kg/year — equivalent to 270 trees annually, or 270 × 25 years = 6,750 tree-years of CO₂ absorption.

Why is India's grid CO₂ intensity so high?
