Every step, every document, every component needed to apply, install, and receive your ₹78,000 subsidy under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. Print this page — it's a single-sheet companion for your entire solar journey.
Every step to apply, install, and receive your ₹78,000 subsidy.
Residential rooftop only. Must own the property or have written NOC from owner. Must have a live DISCOM electricity connection in your name.
Match system size to your monthly consumption. Typical: 2-3 kW for a small home, 3-5 kW for a medium home, 5+ kW for a large home with AC.
You need ~70 sq ft of shadow-free south-facing roof per kW. For a 3 kW system: ~210 sq ft.
Only MNRE-approved vendors can register your system for subsidy. BL Solar Solutions is MNRE & UPNEDA registered.
Visit pmsuryaghar.gov.in. Click "Apply For Rooftop Solar". Select your state and DISCOM.
Upload your latest electricity bill. Enter consumer number, bill amount, and desired system size.
DISCOM verifies your connection details and technical feasibility. Usually takes 3-7 business days.
Choose from MNRE-empanelled vendors. Get quotes from 2-3, compare using our Solar Calculator.
Contract must include system specs, warranties, timeline, and final price after subsidy.
Vendor visits, measures roof, confirms panel layout, mounting structure design, and cable routes.
HDGI or aluminium mount anchored to roof at correct tilt angle (~latitude × 0.87 + 3.1).
Panels clamped to mount, MC4 connectors secured, DC cables routed to junction box and inverter.
Inverter mounted indoors/shed, AC output connected to home distribution panel and bi-directional meter.
Earth pits dug, SPDs installed, all metal parts bonded. Resistance must be ≤ 5Ω.
DISCOM engineer inspects installation, certifies compliance, and installs bi-directional net meter.
Solar array turned on, inverter synced to grid, real-time generation confirmed.
Upload installation certificate, commissioning report, bank details, and photos to PM Surya Ghar portal.
MNRE credits subsidy (₹30k-78k) directly to your bank account after verification.
Uttar Pradesh adds ₹15,000/kW (max ₹30,000) via UPNEDA. Disbursed 60-90 days after central subsidy.
Activate RMS portal, register for monitoring alerts, book annual maintenance contract (₹1,500-5,000/year).
Every PM Surya Ghar installation must include these components. Verify each item is delivered before final payment, and keep photos of serial numbers, DCR stickers, and certificates.
Must be DCR-certified (Domestic Content Requirement). Only DCR panels qualify for PM Surya Ghar subsidy — non-DCR panels are rejected even if they're cheaper.
Convert sunlight to DC electricity. Must be made in India from Indian silicon.
Holds panels at correct tilt and azimuth. Anchored to roof.
Combines panel strings safely with DC isolator and fuses.
Must be a grid-tied inverter with anti-islanding protection and net-metering compatibility. Pure-sine output is mandatory.
Converts DC panel output to AC 230V/415V grid-compatible power.
Isolates solar AC output from home panel for service and safety.
Bi-directional meter and data logger are mandatory for PM Surya Ghar. DISCOM installs the net meter after subsidy approval.
Records both energy imported from grid and exported to grid.
Tracks system performance, sends alerts for downtime.
All cables must be UV-resistant, double-insulated, and sized correctly. Earthing and surge protection are non-negotiable.
Connects panels to inverter. Must survive 25 years of roof exposure.
Connects inverter to home panel and net meter.
Safety earthing for panels, inverter, and structure.
Protects electronics from lightning and grid surges.
Weatherproof connections between panels and string cables.
Without these documents your DISCOM won't install the net meter and you won't receive your subsidy payout.
Sanction from UPPCL/MVVNL/DVVNL for grid synchronization.
Only MNRE-registered vendors can register systems for subsidy.
Signed by installer confirming correct installation and commissioning.
Verifies each panel meets rated wattage before installation.
DISCOM document confirming net meter is installed and working.
Aadhaar, PAN, electricity bill, consumer number, bank statement.
You must receive written warranties for each component — check they're included in the installation contract.
25-year linear performance + 10-12 year product warranty.
5 years standard, extendable to 10 years on premium models.
5-10 years against rust and structural failure.
2-5 years from installer covering wiring, leaks, and connection failures.
Optional but recommended — covers panel cleaning, inverter servicing, monitoring.
Before you begin, run the exact subsidy amount in our Subsidy Calculator so every line on this checklist maps to a number you expect to receive.
A complete PM Surya Ghar kit must include: DCR-certified solar panels, grid-tied inverter, mounting structure, DC & AC cables (UV-resistant), MC4 connectors, earthing kit, surge protection devices (SPDs), junction/combiner box, bi-directional net meter, and a data logger. See the full kit breakdown on this page.
Yes. Only DCR-certified (Domestic Content Requirement) panels qualify for the subsidy. Non-DCR panels — even if cheaper — will cause your subsidy claim to be rejected. Read our detailed DCR guide.
30-45 days typical: 7-10 days planning + 3-7 days DISCOM feasibility + 2-4 days physical installation + 7-14 days DISCOM inspection + 30-45 days subsidy payout (central) + 60-90 days for UP state subsidy.
You can claim it yourself on the PM Surya Ghar portal after commissioning. Most MNRE-registered installers handle the claim on your behalf as part of the installation service — make sure this is included in writing.
Installation certificate, panel flash test report, DCR certificates, DISCOM net meter commissioning report, inverter warranty, panel warranty, mounting structure warranty, and all invoices. Keep these in a folder for 25 years — you'll need them for warranty claims.
Refuse final payment until every item is completed and documented. Common omissions: earthing resistance measurement, SPD installation, RMS (monitoring) setup. These are mandatory under MNRE guidelines — don't accept them as optional.
Yes — 90% of the items apply to commercial installs. Commercial systems are not eligible for PM Surya Ghar subsidy but follow similar installation, DISCOM approval, and commissioning steps. Net metering rules differ by state.
