Subsidy Eligibility — FAQs

Common questions about who qualifies for the PM Surya Ghar solar subsidy

Residential electricity consumers with a valid connection and owned, shadow-free roof space are eligible for the central subsidy (up to ₹78,000) and, in Uttar Pradesh, an additional state subsidy (up to ₹30,000). Group Housing Societies / RWAs get ₹18,000/kW for common facilities. Commercial, industrial and government consumers are not eligible for this subsidy.

Central subsidy is ₹30,000 for 1 kW, ₹60,000 for 2 kW, and ₹78,000 (fixed cap) for 3 kW and above. In Uttar Pradesh you also get ₹15,000/kW (max ₹30,000) state subsidy. So a 3 kW residential system in UP gets up to ₹1,08,000 total.

You need a valid electricity connection in your name and authority to install on the roof. Owners qualify directly; tenants need owner permission and roof access. Flat owners can install on their allocated roof share, and the society can install on common areas.

The PM Surya Ghar central subsidy is a national scheme available across India. The additional state subsidy shown here (₹15,000/kW, max ₹30,000) is specific to Uttar Pradesh; other states have their own state-level top-ups.

Commercial, industrial and government consumers are not eligible for the PM Surya Ghar residential subsidy, but solar is still highly worthwhile — you can claim accelerated depreciation and benefit from large electricity savings. We design and install commercial solar across UP.
